I get more out of this online community than from my in-person camera club!

I have been a member of Emma’s Camera Club since June 2020 and it continues to exceed my expectations as a supportive and informative group as well as community for learning new photography techniques and post processing options. The monthly projects and guest speakers are a great source of inspiration and help spark my creativity.

This was one of our lockdown projects; one month all members took a photo of the same full moon. It was a lovely way to realise we are all connected, all looking up at the same moon even as we were stuck in our own homes.

My favourite thing about Emma Davies’ Camera Club is the confidence it has given me and the sense of belonging. I’ve never experienced such a positive and welcoming group of photographers - and all while learning and experiencing so many new things about photography

What’s included?

A new project every month

Each project is designed so you can follow your own interests and preferences whilst building up a steady bank of skills and experience.

Previous projects include: architecture, black and white, “seeing the light”, water, histograms, tripod masterclass, “4 shots only”, visual metaphor and collages.

Immediate access to the archive

You have immediate access to all the previous projects (75 and growing every month).

Regular guest speakers

Every month (except August and December) we have a guest speaker via Zoom. Previous speakers include David du Chemin, Margaret Soraya, Jonathan Chritchley, Sandra Bartocha and Michael Pilkington.

Monthly online get-togethers

Each month (except August and December) we meet on Zoom to discuss the current project. Emma also offer live critiques and editing work-throughs.

Special Interest Groups

Hosted by volunteer members these are the perfect way to enjoy smaller groups within the community. There is something for everyone, from Project365 to Birds and Bugs, from Astro to Macro.

How is it different to AYWMC?

  1. AYWMC is very prescriptive; you need to follow each lesson in order and complete a very specific task for homework. This club is much more flexible. Emma outlines the topic to be covered each month but you are then free to interpret it in your own way.

  2. It’s a smaller community so you may feel more involved than with the AYWMC app.

  3. Emma is active in the community every week, and live in the Zoom sessions every month offering critiques.

20% discount

Club members can claim a 20% discount on all of Emma’s other online courses including Composition: Beyond the Basics, Mindful Photography and The Art of Flower Photography.

Joining the Camera Club after being a member of AYWMC for 18 months really helped me to develop my photography skills further and gain confidence in my own photography. Everyone is happy to share their photography processes and give encouraging and helpful feedback about my photographs.

I joined Emma’s camera club after finishing A Year with My Camera. I didn’t know what to expect and what I found was an inclusive, supportive and knowledgeable community. My confidence as a photographer has steadily grown since.

Since joining this club my photography has improved dramatically and I have learnt about new techniques and new photographers. The talks from different photographers every month are very inspiring and informative.

I also love the way that everyone is so positive, non judgmental and very supportive.

FAQs

Is the club suitable for complete beginners?

You need to understand what aperture, shutter speed and ISO are, and how the camera exposes. You do not need to shoot on manual mode all the time, or at all. If you're not ready yet, join A Year With My Camera (AYearWithMyCamera.com) for free beginner's lessons. If you've done the first book of AYMWC (or the first 4 modules) you're ready to join.

Do I need editing software?

Most members use Lightroom or Affinity. You don't need to process your images to join the club. Emma demonstrates all editing in Lightroom Classic (the original offline version).

Is feedback included?

Feedback is available from Emma during our once-a-month online get-togethers. Peer critique is encouraged when requested.

Are refunds given?

The joining fee is refundable within the first 30 days of membership. You can cancel your ongoing subscription at any time.

There is a lot to gain from the camera club’s Special Interest Groups. I recently bought a new printer based on valuable advice from group members
