The hardest part of Lightroom is the very beginning: getting your photos in, understanding what you’re looking at, and daring to change something. Once you’re past that, the rest stops feeling frightening.

This is a 3-hour workshop for complete beginners. We’ll spend the first half with me demonstrating on screen; opening Lightroom Classic, importing photos so you can always find them again, taking a calm tour of what everything is for, and making a first real edit. After a short break, the session opens up for your questions, so you can clear up anything that hasn’t quite landed before you go.

You don’t need to have opened Lightroom before. If you’ve bought it and left it sitting there, or opened it once and closed it again, this is exactly where to start.

This is for you if you’re a complete beginner who wants a calm, guided first look at Lightroom Classic.

How the workshop runs

6–7:30pm · Watch it done

I demonstrate on screen; opening Lightroom Classic, importing your photos so you can always find them again, a calm tour of what everything is for, and making your first real edit.

7:45–9pm · Your questions

Then it opens up; Q&A and clarifications. You can bring your own photos and sticking points and we’ll work through them together.

Recorded

Every session is recorded, and the recording is yours to keep so you can watch it back whenever you like and work through the edits at your own pace.

All the sessions run online on Zoom.

You’ll need a stable internet connection.

By the end of the workshop you’ll be able to say:

✓ I can bring my photos into Lightroom Classic and find any one I want.

✓ I understand what the main parts of Lightroom are for.

✓ I’ve made a real edit and seen the before and after.

✓ I know exactly where to go next.

Have you got Lightroom Classic?

Confusingly, there are two different apps called Lightroom, and this workshop is for Lightroom Classic: the fuller desktop version most keen photographers use.

It’s quick to check which one you’ve got. Open the Lightroom and look along the top. If you see a row of named modules – Library, Develop, Map, Print – you’re in Lightroom Classic, and you’re in exactly the right place. If instead you see a simpler, cloud-based layout with no modules – just your photos and an Edit panel – that’s the newer app (Lightroom, sometimes called Lightroom CC), which works quite differently. This course is NOT for you if you have the cloud-based Lightroom.
